Product Description

Mainstay of the Highland warriors of the late 15th and 16th centuries, the Claymore had a uniquely styled hilt that sets it apart from other great swords of the period. Typically of longsword length, this versatile weapon could deliver great sweeping slashes or powerful thrusts. Replicated from a surviving museum piece our Claymore is classic in its design, with distinctive sloping quillons terminating in quatrefoils and a high-collared quillon block with langets following the blade fuller. The leather-covered grip is topped by a globate pommel. The grip of the Claymore is leather-covered. See model SH2060N for the antique-finished version of this sword.

  1. Thoughts on Hanwei Highland Claymore modern reproduction sword 4 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Jan 2016

Dimensions seem to be accurate in comparison to historical claymores; as example, standard historical claymore weight dimensions were somewhere between 4.5-5.5 pounds, the Hanwei claymore is just under 5 pounds in overall weight. Similar measurements for blade and hilt lengths. Point of balance seems to be more towards the blade, which may help if used in cutting practice. But it will take some getting use to, it is heavier as compared to many other modernly reproduced 2-handed swords. If owner wants to use for lots of cutting practice, then recommend going with the regular sword, not the "antique" version of the sword. If used as part of a collection, for light cutting, or for solo drills, the antique blade is fine. My focus for this sword was as a historical piece and for solo drills, not cutting , as I have other blades for that; so the antique version of the Claymore works for me.

  3. Quality Sword 5 Star Review

I should start by admitting, I don't know a lot about swords. I did research for many hours before deciding to purchase from Hanwei. The sword is beautiful and very well made. I am delighted with it and absolutely recommend Paul Chen Hanwei Swords.
